Cloud Engineer (Platform Engineer)

Cloud Platform Engineer
Location - Leeds or Dublin
Hybrid - 2 days per week

Flutter Technology is seeking a skilled cloud engineer to play a pivotal role in designing, implementing, automating, and operating our evolving AWS-based Internal Developer Platform (IDP). This platform supports Flutter's global services, enabling faster delivery, reliability, and improved developer experience across our betting brands. The role offers an opportunity to influence technology choices, collaborate across brands, and support migration and modernization efforts.

The ideal candidate will have experience in enterprise environments, possibly within platform engineering teams or large-scale cloud transformation projects. They should have a customer-focused, collaborative approach, strong technical knowledge of cloud-native technologies, automation, and platform engineering principles. The role involves shaping our platform API strategy and contributing to the evaluation of AWS services, tooling, and components aligned with strategic goals.

About Division/Function

Flutter comprises two commercial divisions, Fanduel and International, and our central Flutter Functions. The Flutter Functions team collaborates across divisions to deliver the Flutter Edge, a key differentiator that powers our brands through Product, Tech, Expertise, and Scale. We work with experts across Flutter to build, deploy, and communicate this advantage, covering areas like Product & Payments, Technology, Sportsbook, Trading, and more.

What you'll do

• Develop and maintain platform capabilities and interfaces, contributing to the IDP API strategy to enhance developer experience and self-service.
• Drive automation using Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Crossplane, Terraform, CDK) and configuration management tools.
• Implement and manage CI/CD pipelines (e.g., ArgoCD, AWS CodePipeline, GitHub Actions) following GitOps practices.
• Manage and improve our Kubernetes platform, maintain repositories, and review platform code.
• Support engineering teams in adopting cloud services and maintain technical documentation.
• Define, document, and support Low-Level-Designs (LLDs) for Flutter cloud services.
• Act as a trusted SME, sharing knowledge and advising the broader team.
• Create and promote standard operating procedures, policies, and runbooks.
• Collaborate with group functions, vendors, and partners, fostering strategic relationships.
• Practice sustainable incident response and participate in future on-call rotations.

How you'll do it

• Experience building and operating cloud platforms in highly available AWS environments.
• Strong Kubernetes knowledge and hands-on experience.
• Proficiency with IaC tools (Crossplane, Terraform, AWS CDK, CloudFormation).
• Experience with GitOps workflows (ArgoCD, similar tools).
• Solid understanding of CI/CD principles and tools.
• Experience with observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, CloudWatch, etc.).
• Strong scripting skills (Python, Go, Bash).
• Proficiency with Git and collaborative workflows.
• Experience with Linux systems and cloud security principles.
• Knowledge of deployment assets management (container images, Helm charts).
• Experience with incident, change, and risk management processes.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Analytical, strategic, and proactive in approach.
• Experience in agile environments and cloud migration projects.
• Relevant AWS and Kubernetes certifications are preferred.
