North Staffordshire Combined Healthcare NHS Trust in Stoke-on-Trent is seeking a registered mental health practitioner to join a dedicated team and deliver high-quality care within a supportive environment.

You will work with service users and carers, uphold dignity and equality, and contribute to comprehensive assessments and safe medication practices. The role requires Band 6 experience and relevant professional qualifications.

Qualifications

  • A registered mental health practitioner with a degree in nursing, social work or occupational therapy or equivalent experience.
  • Post qualification work in core profession. Experience of managing clinical practice at band 6.
  • Specialist clinical knowledge of medical and psychiatric conditions, diagnosis, treatment and care including contraindications and side effects to medications, relevant to health speciality.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a positive practitioner-patient relationship with service users and carers, with joint care decisions wherever possible.
  • Deliver care that is sensitive to age, culture, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, disability and spirituality.
  • Engage with service users and carers to prevent distress and promote recovery.
  • Demonstrate a competent knowledge of physical and mental health conditions, diagnosis, treatment and care, and carry out comprehensive mental health assessments.
  • Ensure medication is administered safely by a registered practitioner with knowledge of contraindications and side effects.
  • Contribute to the clinical vision for the service so all staff can describe how they contribute to it.

The post holder is responsible for ensuring that:

  1. There is a positive practitioner patient relationship where there is a connection with service users and their carers and decisions are made jointly about their care wherever possible, including being treated with dignity and compassion.
  2. The care that is delivered is sensitive to age, culture, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, disability and spirituality.
  3. There is active engagement with service users/carers to prevent distress and anxiety and promote recovery.
  4. Staff demonstrate a competent level of knowledge in physical and mental health conditions, diagnosis, treatment and care in relation to their role/responsibilities, demonstrating the ability to carry out comprehensive and specialist mental health assessment.
  5. Consent is obtained for any intervention and interactions. In situations where an intervention is required without consent being given, this is done within the relevant legal framework with respect for the service users, protecting their dignity.
  6. All tasks are performed with courtesy, respect and kindness.
  7. Ensure medication is administered by an appropriate registered practitioner safely with the knowledge of contraindications and side effects, relaying accurate information to service users in a format they are able to understand.
  8. The clinical vision for the service is clearly identified and all staff are able to describe how they contribute to meeting the vision.
