Job description

This post is ideal for a doctor with MRCP seeking to establish a career in any of the medical specialties, who is either between core medical and higher training and wants a career break, or a higher specialist trainee as an Out of Programme for Experience with an interest in Medical Education. The post is also suitable for trainees pursuing careers in Respiratory Medicine, Critical Care, or Acute Medicine, offering opportunities to gain experience in respiratory conditions and Non-Invasive Ventilation (NIV).

ACUTE RESPIRATORY CARE UNIT - 2.5 days

As part of this role, you will spend 2.5 days per week on the ARCU at QMC Campus. This provides a balanced opportunity to combine teaching responsibilities with a varied and well-supported clinical role.

The unit manages Level 1 and 2 patients with respiratory and other medical conditions, including respiratory failure requiring NIV. Note: The unit cares for patients with Covid infection, including the use of NIV and high-flow oxygen, and you will be expected to manage these patients with full PPE provided.

You will also review and discuss potential admissions from ED, wards, and step-down units from Intensive Care. The ARCU hosts a consultant of the week, often with a background in Respiratory Medicine or Critical Care, providing an excellent opportunity for medical trainees to gain experience in these areas prior to starting ST3 training.

TEACHING - UNDERGRADUATE MEDICAL EDUCATION DEPARTMENT (UMED) – 2.5 DAYS

This role offers teaching opportunities and the chance to enhance your CV when applying for a training number or future positions. It also provides the opportunity to pursue a higher degree, such as a Masters in Medical Education, present at conferences, and research innovations in medical education.

We are the largest employer in Nottinghamshire, serving over 2.5 million residents locally and beyond. Our hospital provides a range of specialist services and is involved in cutting-edge surgical procedures and research. We host the East Midlands Major Trauma Centre, Nottingham Children's Hospital, and a Biomedical Research Centre in partnership with the University of Nottingham, focusing on vital research in various medical fields.

As a teaching hospital, we are committed to the education and training of healthcare professionals and maintain strong collaborations with universities including the University of Nottingham, Nottingham Trent University, and Loughborough University.
