Job description

Teaching Fellow in Medical Education

This is an exciting opportunity to join the teaching team of the MBChB. Candidates should have clinical experience and have successfully completed Foundation Training within the UK Foundation Programme. The successful candidate will join our team delivering education to the first two years of the MBChB programme, with opportunities to tutor prescribing and medicines safety for years 3-5.

Teaching fellows will work for the Division of Medical Education, School of Medical Sciences, which leads the delivery of an innovative undergraduate medical programme to over 2300 students, as well as several postgraduate programmes.

You will be based in the Stopford Building and University campus, with some online activities. Your role will involve various teaching and assessment responsibilities, providing valuable experience for your academic career. Our 10-month posts offer flexibility to seek clinical work during summer or to relax after your FY2 year before starting clinical work in August 2026. You will work alongside senior academics, under their supervision and support.

Primary responsibilities include supporting consultation skills teaching and anatomy demonstrations, with opportunities to co-tutor physiology/pharmacology, mentor group sessions, and participate in ethics, law, behavioral and social sciences teaching. You may also support students in their Personal Excellence Path project and tutor students in prescribing and medicines safety as they prepare for assessments. As the year progresses, we aim to help each fellow develop areas of interest, such as anatomy demonstration or prescribing education.

Teaching fellows are expected to be available for campus-based teaching across all semesters, aligned with the student timetable. Specific periods for leave will be allocated, and staff are not required to work during university closure days at Christmas. These days are in addition to annual leave.

This role offers diverse educational experiences, with opportunities to participate in the Advance HE programme to gain AFHEA accreditation.

What you will get in return:
  • Market-leading pension scheme
  • Health and wellbeing services, including Employee Assistance Programme
  • Generous annual leave entitlement plus bank holidays
  • Additional paid leave over Christmas
  • Discounts at major retailers
