The Ophthalmology Department cares for patients of all ages attending a wide range of ophthalmic clinics. We have Doctor/Nurse led clinics on all sites.
Within this post, you will work in general Ophthalmology clinics and more specialised ophthalmic clinics, perform preoperative assessments, and support the organisation and running of clinics daily. This provides an opportunity to cover all aspects of Ophthalmic Care.
You will undergo in-house training specialising in Ophthalmic Nursing care.
You will be expected to complete the ophthalmic competencies required to work in the department.
We operate from three main hospitals: Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, along with community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and RLI offer a range of General Hospital services, including Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units, and consultant-led services.
WGH provides General Hospital services, an Urgent Treatment Centre, and helps with conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three hospitals provide outpatient services, diagnostics, therapies, day-case, and inpatient surgeries. Additionally, various outreach services and diagnostics are available across Morecambe Bay.
