Job summary

Liverpool Women’s NHS Foundation Trust offers a 12‑month Annex U development post to become a Clinical Specialist Sonographer in Practice Education. The role is based at Liverpool Women’s Hospital with an 80/20 clinical/non-clinical split and involves coordinating ultrasound education, peer-review and QA within the service.

The post requires commitment to a minimum of 30 hours per week, with non-specialist Obstetric and Gynaecology ultrasound elements retained.

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse/ Midwife or AHP
• Degree in health-related subject or equivalent
• Extensive experience at senior clinical level
• Leadership qualification or evidence of appropriate experience
• Evidence of leadership skills
• Master’s degree in healthcare related subject

Responsibilities

• Complete a MSc, funded by the department.
• Develop SOP for clinical specialist role in conjunction with Consultant Sonographer.
• Act as Trainee Mentor for all ultrasound trainees.
• Coordinate and help facilitate the peer-review programme.
• Prepare, with the help of the Consultant Sonographer & US Management Team, the BMUS Preceptorship Endorsement Scheme application.
• Complete reflective piece on the benefit of practice educator within across the ultrasound service.
• Coordinate and help facilitate the Quality Assurance (QA) programme.
• Undertake one clinical audit.
• Attend and participate within education meetings with the Consultant Sonographer and clinical assessors.
• Demonstrate ability to work to specific deadlines.
• Act as appraiser for the (PgD) trainee sonographers.
• Review and update role-specific clinical protocols in conjunction with the Consultant Sonographer.
