We have an exciting opportunity for a Clinical Specialist Nurse to shape, develop, and be one of the first to join our mental health team at HMP Millsike, a brand new Category B men's prison located in the village of Full Sutton near York.
HMP Millsike will have an operational capacity of 1500 people, who will spend their sentences learning skills needed for employment upon release, as part of the government's efforts to reduce reoffending. The prison site is under construction, and Tees Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust has been awarded the Mental Health Service contract to begin delivering services in April 2025.
This is a rare opportunity to be part of a new mental health team at a brand new prison site.
Your clinical expertise and extensive knowledge will support the delivery of mental health services, develop pathways, ensure quality care, and uphold clinical governance structures.
You will have extensive experience working within a prison or wider forensic services and possess a positive, compassion-focused attitude towards service users in the prison environment. You should be aware of the clinical challenges faced by individuals in secure settings and lead by example. The team includes Registered Mental Health and Learning Disability Nurses, Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Psychologists, Psychiatrists, Primary Care Mental Health Practitioners, and wider partner agencies such as primary care, social care, and prison colleagues.
We offer robust supervision, a comprehensive induction, and a workforce development plan with various training opportunities to expand your skills and evidence-based practices.
You should be innovative, flexible, and capable of engaging clients with complex needs. We value commitment to equal opportunities, non-discriminatory practices, and aligning with the trust's core values of Responsibility, Respect, and Compassion.
The post holder will serve as the professional lead for nurses within the team, overseeing professional development and ensuring high standards of nursing practice.
We encourage candidates to contact us for an informal discussion.
We invest in your training and development. All staff joining TEWV will receive a comprehensive induction. Continuous professional development is a priority; once comfortable in your role, you and your manager will develop a Personal Development Plan (PDP) to support your career aspirations, with resources provided to facilitate your growth.
