Job summary

Are you passionate about safeguarding? An exciting opportunity has arisen for a clinical specialist to join the UHCW NHS Trust Safeguarding Team. The successful candidate will join a supportive and innovative team, continually striving to ensure that all Trust staff know their safeguarding responsibility and are equipped to improve services and outcomes for families in their care.

The post holder will provide highly specialist safeguarding advice and support within the Trust on safeguarding matters. Ensuring the relevant elements of quality and safety within national guidance and legislation are met. These obligations are met through provision of policy and service development around safeguarding.

The role requires collaborative working and effective inter- disciplinary and inter-agency relationships with all partner agencies in order to minimise the risks to children and young people.

Please note this is a part-time job and the working hours are 30 weekly.

Main duties of the job

  1. Maintain expertise, knowledge and professional leadership to the Trust regarding statutory responsibilities towards safeguarding children and young people.
  2. Be an excellent role model and exercise good effective leadership, ensuring that support and advice is readily available, and that there is clear guidance as to whom to contact for out of hours advice.
  3. Support the review of existing Trust policies, procedures and standards for the management of safeguarding incorporating best practice and evidence.
  4. Provide relevant written and statistical reporting of safeguarding activity for the Safeguarding Adults, Children and Young People Committee and other relevant forums.
  5. Support with completing Internal Management Reviews for Serious Practice Reviews, Domestic Homicide Reviews, and other serious incidents in accordance with statutory guidance.
  6. Support on the dissemination and implementation of learning across the Trust from Safeguarding cases including Safeguarding Practice Reviews, Domestic Homicide Reviews and other significant incidents where there are safeguarding concerns.

  • Receive and manage sensitive information regarding the abuse of individuals requiring interpretation and preparation for reports and data. There may also be times where participation with complaints or meetings whereby distress and aggression may be displayed from others.
  • Lead on the review and delivery of the Safeguarding Children and Young People training programmes across the organisation.
  • Lead on the development and delivery of the Safeguarding champions agenda.
  • Be responsive and adaptable to deadlines and unpredictable service demands within limited time constraints to meet objectives and deadlines.
  • Deputise for the Named Nurse for Safeguarding Children and Young People when required.
  • Support the monitoring of the allocated budget for the service and help identify the most effective way of working within available resources.
  • Manage and develop staff in accordance with Trust policies regarding performance, sickness and other related issues.
  • Support the development and delivery of robust internal systems to promote a consistent, high quality safeguarding service. This will involve working with senior managers and leaders and front line colleagues across the Trust to develop systems, produce reports, and promote consistent, high quality safeguarding services.
