Main duties of the job

This is an exciting opportunity to join our team. We are seeking applications from HCPC registered staff with a good working knowledge of ionising and non-ionising radiation protection, management of radioactive materials and diagnostic radiology physics. The role is not open to those looking for training positions.
The role supports the use of ionising and non-ionising radiation across the organisation to enable safe and effective treatment and diagnosis for patients, and ensure staff safety.
The post reports to one of the senior team within the Radiation Protection Group in Medical Physics.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities

• To assist the Radiation Protection Adviser in the provision of ionising radiation protection services to the Trust and other clients
• To assist the Laser Protection Adviser with the provision of non-ionising radiation protection services to the Trust and other clients.
• To support the work of the Medical Physics Experts by participating in a program of X-ray QA surveys and optimisation projects for local and client sites.

Qualifications, Knowledge And Experience

Essential criteria

• Good (1st or 2nd class) Honours degree in a relevant subject or equivalent
• HCPC registration as a Clinical Scientist.
• Relevant MSc or equivalent
• Proficient in the use of a PC, Keyboard
• Experience of operating x-ray and laser equipment
• Strong Interpersonal skills.
• Logical thinker with ability to set objectives.
• Ability to use initiative to resolve problems.
• Ability to use and develop software (including MS Office).
• Ability to work in an emotionally distressing clinical environment.
• Ability to relate to and communicate with a broad range of professional disciplines.
• Ability to work as a member of a team and as an individual.
• Ability to present highly complex data to large and varied audiences

Desirable criteria

• PhD in a Physics related subject
• Experience of working with quality management systems.
• Presentation of scientific papers at professional meetings.
• Publication of scientific papers or other reports.
