University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust is seeking a Clinical Scientist in Imaging & Radiation Protection. The role involves providing expert clinical scientific services and radiation protection, including quality control testing of imaging equipment and supporting staff training. This position offers the opportunity to work in a collaborative environment dedicated to innovation and clinical excellence.
Provide clinical scientific and radiation protection services in support of uses of ionising radiation.
Participate in service development and improvement. Initiate and contribute to research and development projects.
Appointment at Band 6 would be considered for those with less experience with a modified job description.
Support the Clinical and Radiation Physics service within Diagnostic radiography.
Undertake quality control tests on imaging equipment (e.g., CT scanners, general x-ray, dental, and interventional radiology) and other associated equipment to relevant standards. Support Radiation Protection Advisers and Medical Physics Experts in providing high-quality radiation protection services.
Involvement in teaching and training staff, including external customers such as FRCR and University of Plymouth.

1.1 HCPC Registered Clinical Scientist specializing in Diagnostic Radiology and Radiation Protection.
2.1 Analyze data and make professional judgments to ensure safe and appropriate use of equipment.
2.2 Develop and maintain protocols and procedures for testing x-ray equipment, complying with guidelines and legislative requirements.
2.3 Develop and maintain IT solutions for departmental activities, including spreadsheets, databases, networking, and analytical tools.
2.4 Assist in drafting specifications and evaluating major radiological equipment in collaboration with Medical Physics Experts and senior staff.
2.5 Provide reports and advice to staff and customers, including interpretation of data.
Note: Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, NHS At Risk staff, and those with recent relevant experience as per the Person Specification.
