We are looking for a Clinical Research Fellow in Psychiatry to join the University of Leicester’s Medical Sciences area of Global Health, Lifestyle and Metabolic Medicine. This part-time post offers an exciting opportunity for a resident doctor in psychiatry to broaden their research experience by contributing to an industry-sponsored clinical trial conducted jointly by the Leicester Diabetes Centre, based at University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust, and Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust. The 64-week, multi-centre, placebo-controlled, double-blind randomised trial will investigate the use of once-weekly GLP-1RA therapy as part of a person-centred pathway for patients living with obesity and severe mental illness.
Working within a multidisciplinary research environment, you will provide medical supervision for the trial and play a leading role in participant identification, recruitment, screening and review, clinical assessments and intervention delivery. You will contribute to trial coordination and regulatory requirements, work with statisticians to analyse data, and help prepare research papers and other outputs for publication. You will also have opportunities to present study findings at national and international meetings and contribute to occasional teaching and supervision.
You will hold an MB BS or equivalent, have full GMC registration and a licence to practise, hold MRCPsych, and be ST3 or above with a National Training Number in Psychiatry, having completed core psychiatry training. You will also hold a Good Clinical Practice certificate or have the ability to obtain one. With strong written and fluent oral communication skills in English, you will be able to plan and prioritise your work effectively, use your own initiative and work collaboratively with medical and non-medical colleagues, researchers and study participants. You will bring excellent organisational and team-working skills, self-motivation and the ability to deliver work to deadlines.
You will have a clear interest in developing an academic career in psychiatry and an enthusiasm for communicating research at national and international meetings. Experience of clinical research, research methodology, scientific writing or working with patients with obesity or diabetes alongside mental health conditions would be advantageous, as would statistical knowledge and evidence of previous research activity.
