Job summary

Qualifications

Clinical Psychologist - Neurodevelopmental Pathway

The closing date is 18 May 2025

This is a new post that will form an essential part of the ADHD neurodevelopmental pathway MDT, ensuring compliance with national guidelines.

The post holder is expected to contribute to a highly specialist clinical psychology service for children (5-11yo), seen within the ADHD assessment pathway. This will involve undertaking screening assessments, specialist psychological assessments, and providing consultation, advice, and expertise to other clinical staff.

The post holder will be required to work with clinicians at St George's Hospital and at other connected agencies across South West London and within the local integrated care system (ICS) to ensure that the evolving service complements current local service provision and aligns with the vision for improved neurodevelopmental assessments for children and young people.

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS.
  • Registered with the HCPC.
  • Postdoctoral training in neurodevelopmental assessment (for Autism and ADHD).
  • Postdoctoral training in psychological therapeutic approaches applicable to paediatric patients (e.g., ACT, CFT, EBMA).
Experience
  • Experience working with diverse patient groups across the life course, demonstrating professionalism in highly emotive and distressing situations.
  • Experience in applying psychological therapy within a family context.
  • Experience contributing to and managing multidisciplinary teams (MDTs).
  • Experience exercising full clinical responsibility for patients' psychological care and treatment within a multi-disciplinary care plan.
  • The ability to maintain professionalism amidst highly emotive and distressing problems, including verbal and physical threats.
  • Experience applying psychology in different cultural contexts.
  • Experience working in a neurodevelopmental assessment service.
  • Experience in cognitive assessments and using psychometric tools such as the WISC-V and WPPSI-IV.
Knowledge
  • Doctoral or post-qualification knowledge of systemic and organisational working within healthcare.
  • Knowledge of clinical psychology models of assessment and intervention related to neurodevelopmental conditions.
  • Understanding of relevant legislation and its implications for clinical practice and professional management.
  • Knowledge of research design and methodology, including multivariate data analysis in clinical psychology.
Skills
  • Proficiency in complex psychological assessment, intervention, and management methods requiring sustained concentration.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and oral, for conveying complex, sensitive information to clients, families, carers, and professionals.
  • Ability to manage organisational stress and support others in distressing situations.
  • Ability to articulate the role of clinical psychology clearly, understanding government and professional policies.
  • Skilled in providing consultation and training to professionals and non-professionals.
