Job Overview

This role will incorporate complex assessments leading to psychotherapeutic formulations of distress; interpretation of assessment instruments, forming intervention plans, and the delivery of interventions to this population.

Job Overview

In this role you will be responsible for the provision of a specialised emotional wellbeing service for pre-school children presenting with emotional and/or behavioural difficulties. This role will provide a service predominantly across West Staffordshire. This role will incorporate complex assessments leading to psychotherapeutic formulations of distress; interpretation of assessment instruments, forming intervention plans, and the delivery of interventions to this population.

You will provide supervision and clinical support to team members and clinical supervision to Psychologists in training as required. Supervision and support will be arranged as per Trust guidance and professional requirements.

You will participate in the development and delivery of the CAMHS Early Years’ Service provision.

There will be an expectation to utilise research skills for audit, policy, service development, and research within the area served by the team/service.

Main duties of the job

  • The Clinical Psychologist will provide psychological assessments and interventions in the CAMHS Early Years’ Service to pre-school children meeting service criteria.
  • This role will deliver a service across the West (Stafford, Cannock & Rugeley areas) of the CAMHS Early Years’ Service, but may include work across the South Staffordshire area, as required. This role will involve complex assessments leading to psychological formulations, development of care plans, the delivery of interventions to this population and use of Outcome Measures to evaluate service effectiveness.
  • Interventions will include delivery of group parenting programmes. The post-holder will be expected to participate fully in the delivery of such programmes and to undertake training as required to support such delivery. The post-holder will be expected to accept any opportunities, as required, to develop specialised supervision skills so that they may ultimately supervise colleagues in the delivery of the parenting programme.
  • The CAMHS Early Years’ Service pays close attention to parent-child attachments. The post-holder will deliver interventions, as appropriate, to support child attachment and thereby improve functioning.
  • The post-holder will support the development of relevant skills and knowledge of service colleagues and other professionals through training, supervision, and consultation to further address the emotional wellbeing needs of young children.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Doctoral level qualification in Clinical Psychology as recognized by the Health Professions Council (HCPC)
  • Registered with the HCPC under a relevant practitioner psychologist title
  • Completion of STAR (or equivalent) Clinical Psychology supervision training

Desirable criteria

  • Eligible for Chartership status with the British Psychological Society
  • Further training in a specific psychological model / interventions specific to the role remit/area of work

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Post-qualification experience of working therapeutically with children and young people with significant emotional or mental health difficulties, and their families/carers.
  • Experience of contributing to the development of services.
  • Experience of providing specialist psychological assessment and intervention across a full range of settings.
  • Experience of consultation with professionals from both within the Health Service and Partner Agencies.
  • Experience of teaching, training and supervision

Desirable criteria

  • Experience of group work
  • Experience of conducting research and/or audit in clinical settings.
