This is an exciting opportunity to join the Neuropsychiatry team at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery. The service accepts referrals from all over the UK.
We are looking for individuals interested in providing psychological therapy using a range of therapeutic approaches (individuals and groups) to patients with complex neurological presentations and functional neurological disorders/medically unexplained symptoms.
Main duties of the job
You will join an experienced and supportive multi-disciplinary team to deliver psychological treatment to a highly complex and diverse client group. There will be opportunities to develop your psychotherapy and research skills and develop your career in health settings.

Person specificationKnowledge and QualificationsEssential criteria- Honours degree in psychology or related disciplines, and a Doctorate and/or PhD level in clinical psychology / counselling psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS
- Registered with the HCPC as Practitioner Psychologist, and evidence of continuing professional development as required by the HCPC.
ExperienceEssential criteria- Interest in psychological interventions with patients with comorbid physical illness, including long-term neurological conditions and FND.
- Experience of using patient-reported outcome.
- Experience of managing own caseload.
- Experience of conducting risk assessment within scope of practice.
Desirable criteria- Experience of specialist and psychological assessment and treatment of clients across the full range of care settings, including outpatient, community and inpatient settings.
Skills, Abilities and KnowledgeEssential criteria- Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to clients, their families and/or carers and other professional colleagues.
- To select and administer specialist psychological assessments, interpreting and integrating complex data that require analysis, interpretation and comparison, drawn from several sources.
- Ability to plan, conduct and evaluate relevant audit initiatives.
Personal QualitiesEssential criteria- Able to work well within a team and foster good relationships.
- Ability to maintain high level of motivation and enthusiasm.
- Ability to use clinical supervision and personal development opportunities positively and effectively.
Other RequirementsEssential criteria- needed on rare occasions. For example, diurnal fluctuation in a clinical problem in an in-patient may necessitate assessment at a time other than between 9-5
