About the project

Emteq Labs and Facial Palsy UK are collaborating on an important research initiative aimed at exploring the emotional impacts of facial palsy. This project focuses on understanding the mental health needs of individuals with facial palsy and developing effective support mechanisms to aid their wellbeing.

A direct-to-consumer app will help patients to track their recovery from Bell’s palsy or Ramsay Hunt syndrome whilst measuring pain and psychological symptoms. Patients meeting certain criteria based on their App scores will be offered virtual psychological assessment and signposting to information and services that can help.

The overall aims of the project are to collect prospective data on the psychological and physical impact of facial palsy using standardised clinical scoring tools. This data will increase the evidence base with the aim of influencing funders to improve services for this patient group.

Five facial palsy specialist clinics without psychological support for patients will be recruited for this project and will work closely with the person in this role.
