Job summary

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated senior psychologist or CBT therapist with an interest in developing their skills and experience supporting staff across the health and social care sector.

Alongside some direct clinical work to assess individuals referred to the Keeping Well NWL service, the postholder will be responsible for the clinical supervision and line management of Assistant Psychologists and qualified Psychologists / CBT Therapists within the team. They will also contribute to the development of the educational, training, outreach, and consultation offer for the Keeping Well NWL service.

To assist in the operational and clinical running of our friendly and innovative staff support service. This includes working with partnership organisations to consider and implement best practice support for Healthcare staff.

Person specification

TRAINING & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical or counseling psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS, or postgraduate training in another core mental health profession (nursing, Occupational therapy) plus 1 postgraduate diploma or higher degree in CBT. OR Accredited as a cognitive behavioural psychotherapist by the British Association of Cognitive & Behavioural Psychotherapies (BABCP) or nearing completion of accreditation process.
  • Professional registration with the appropriate Health Professions Council (HPC), if applicable to core professional training.
  • Pre-qualification training and qualifications in research methodology, staff training, and/or other fields of applied psychology.

EXPERIENCE

  • Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients across the full range of care settings, including outpatient, community, primary care, and inpatient settings.
  • Experience working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course, presenting problems reflecting the full range of clinical severity, maintaining professionalism in highly emotive and distressing situations, including verbal abuse and threats of physical abuse.
  • Experience supervising psychological interventions.
  • Experience applying CBT in different cultural contexts.
  • Experience working with two distinct psychological therapies, including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy.
  • Experience working within an IAPT service and delivering to service targets (clinical contact hours, percentage recovery).
  • Experience supervising both low- and high-intensity workers within an IAPT service.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Skills in complex assessment, intervention, and management requiring sustained concentration.
  • Effective communication skills, orally and in writing, for complex, highly technical, and sensitive information to clients, families, carers, and professionals within and outside the NHS.
  • Knowledge of specialised psychological therapies for difficult-to-treat groups (personality disorder, dual diagnoses, disabilities, long-term health conditions).
  • High-level knowledge of at least two specialised psychological therapies.
