Job overview

We are excited to announce this new clinical nurse specialist post working within the CAMHs learning disability services. The role is based within one of London borough of Merton’s most established schools for children with diverse and wide-ranging needs with learning disabilities and mental illness/challenging behavior, ages 5-19.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work within a specific timetable involving consultation, parenting support, multi-agency liaison and individual therapeutic interventions. The work will include assessing and understanding complex and challenging behaviour/mental health, understanding and implementing positive behavioural approaches and therapeutic strategies, providing recommendations and reviewing these with the child/young person, family and network.

This post sits within the CAMHS LD team ensuring clinical supervision and management from an experienced team. Children and young people referred to the Learning Disability service have moderate to profound learning disabilities compounded by trauma, mental health difficulties and/or complex and challenging behaviour.

We are looking for people who share our passion to develop a first-class service for learning disabled and autistic children in South West London.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post combines direct clinical work with children and families with consultation to CAMHS, teaching staff, social workers and others. The work will include assessing and understanding complex and challenging behavior, mental health, trauma work, developing positive behavioral approaches, direct work with children and young people. There may be opportunities for cognitive and ASD/ADHD assessment and group work.

Qualifications
  • Current registration with relevant professional body: Nursing – NMC; Occupational Therapy – HCPC; Clinical Psychology – HCPC; Social Worker – Social Work England
  • RN (Learning Disability) or RN (Mental Health) with extensive experience with people with LD.
  • Extensive behavioural knowledge and experience
  • PG Diploma/PG Certificate in Applied Behaviour Analysis or equivalent.
Experience
  • At least two years of qualified experience in working with individuals whose behaviour challenges services
  • Experience of a range of specialist behavioural assessment and interventions with clients with learning disabilities whose behaviour challenges services, across the full range of care settings
  • Experience of supporting families
  • Experience of working with individuals with autistic spectrum disorders
  • Experience of working in a learning disability and mental health environment
  • Experience of working within an ethnically diverse community
  • Experience of working within a school
