Job summary

Hopewood Park Hospital in Sunderland, part of Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust, seeks a Clinical Nurse Lead to deputise for the ward manager on adult acute inpatient wards. The role involves coordinating evidence-based care, supervising nursing staff and building needs-based care plans with the multidisciplinary team.

The post operates 24 hours with rotating days, nights, weekends and bank holidays, and requires RMN/RNMH/RNLD qualifications with 12–24 months Band 5

Qualifications

• Professional nursing qualification RMN, RNMH or RNLD.
• ENB 998 or P126/127 or equivalent.
• Student assessor or mentor.

Responsibilities

• Act as deputy to the ward manager and provide operational leadership to the ward team.
• Coordinate and facilitate clinical practice on the ward.
• Supervise and support Staff Nurses and Nursing Assistants.
• Develop, implement and evaluate needs-based care plans through assessment and clinical formulation.
• Lead the management of complex mental and physical health needs.
• Provide clinical leadership and role modelling to maintain high standards.
• Deliver compassionate, patient-centred, evidence-based care to people in acute crisis.
• Lead on training and development.
• Support clinical supervision and staff appraisals.
• Support KPIs, quality standards and regulatory requirements, and compliance with Trust policies.
• Contribute to service improvement and continuous improvement.
• Work flexibly across day and night shifts, weekends and bank holidays.
