Job summary

Birmingham Hospice is seeking a Clinical Lead for the Specialist Palliative Urgent Response (SPUR) Service to lead and develop a dynamic multidisciplinary team across Birmingham and Solihull.

The role combines leadership and operational support with direct clinical care, guiding Urgent Support Healthcare Assistants, Urgent Response Nurses and Paramedics while responding to urgent referrals. You will help deliver timely palliative care in challenging settings.

Qualifications

• Registered healthcare professional (NMC or HCPC registered).
• Passion for palliative and end of life care.
• Experience of leading and supporting clinical teams.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively across organisations and systems.
• Commitment to continuous learning, innovation and service improvement.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and operational support for the SPUR service, spending ~60% of time developing Urgent Support Healthcare Assistants, Urgent Response Nurses and Paramedics.
• Clinical work 40%, rotating between triage and face-to-face care, responding to urgent referrals.
• Ensure patients are assessed and receive timely, specialist palliative and end-of-life care, aiming to keep them in their preferred place of care where possible.
