We have an exciting opportunity for a Clinical Lead to join our expanding team at Primary Eyecare Services!

About Us:

Primary Eyecare Services (PES) is an established provider of high-quality extended eye care services (beyond sight testing), utilizing a large network of optical practice subcontractors across England (~2000). PES manages contracts on behalf of the primary eye care network, spanning ~70 NHS commissioners and delivering over 380,000 episodes of patient care annually, with a total turnover of ~£25+ million. PES is a not-for-profit company, limited by guarantee, with most income passing through to frontline eye care services in optical practices.

Role Overview:

The Clinical Lead will be embedded in local clinical networks (where applicable) to support service development and delivery. Responsibilities include working with the PES contract manager and clinical team for daily monitoring, including mobilisation, auditing, and performance monitoring. The role involves collaboration with LOCs to support new service development and maintain local service delivery, ensuring practices and hospitals are involved effectively across a locality.

Salary:

FTE salary £60,000 (pro-rata). The role is predominantly home-based but requires occasional attendance at PES Head Office in Manchester, M4 6LN, including two full days (9am-5pm) for induction and practice visits in the North East as needed.

General Responsibilities:

  1. Play a key role in mobilising new services, including presenting service pathways.
  2. Develop service pathways with local stakeholders.
  3. Support the development of clinical pathways and protocols.
  4. Build strong relationships with local stakeholders (e.g., LOC, clinicians).
  5. Act as a point of contact for practice and clinical queries.
  6. Coordinate with contract managers and commissioners.
  7. Engage with primary and secondary care providers.
  8. Assist contract managers with performance reports.
  9. Implement service improvements based on stakeholder feedback.
  10. Work with Local Optical Committees’ Liaison Officers and LOCSU on service development.
  11. Conduct ongoing audits and supply anonymised data reports.
  12. Monitor and manage the performance of optometric subcontractors.
  13. Support performance management interventions for outlier practices.
  14. Design communications for subcontractors (e.g., newsletters).
  15. Identify training needs and facilitate peer supervision for optometrists.
  16. Ensure patient and peer feedback informs service improvements.
  17. Disseminate protocols for incident reporting and learning.
  18. Conduct practice visits as required.

The organisation reserves the right to vary duties as needed.

Shift Pattern:

This is a part-time role, 21 hours/week over 3 days, to be discussed during the interview.
