Job summary

The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is inviting applications for a Band 3 Clinical Imaging Assistant in our X-Ray Department. The role supports ultrasound and radiographic examinations, assists procedures, and ensures health, safety and infection control standards are met.

Qualifications

• Provides support to Imaging service, patient registration and workload management.
• Assists Radiology staff and clinicians in examinations and patient care.
• Performs IV cannulation for contrast procedures following training.
• Sets up imaging procedure trolleys (sterile and non-sterile) per guidelines.
• Maintains professional demeanour in distressing environments and supports patient care.

Responsibilities

• Provide support to Imaging service and ensure optimum patient care.
• Assist Radiologists, Radiographers and Sonographers with patient care and chaperone in clinical environments.
• Set up imaging procedure equipment and supply stocks as needed.
• Attend to verbal and telephone requests related to imaging services.
• Assist in various imaging environments ( ultrasound, CT, MRI, fluoroscopy, mammography).
• Support reception and clerical tasks as required.

Job description

Applications are invited from enthusiastic and self-motivated individuals to join our X-Ray Department as a Band 3 Clinical Imaging Assistant. The post will support patients undergoing ultrasound and radiographic examinations, assist procedures when necessary, and ensure health and safety and infection control is adhered to.

As a Clinical Imaging Assistant, you will help to prepare and reassure patients prior to and during their procedures. You will need good communication, interpersonal, and organisations skills. You should be someone who is caring, reassuring, and calm in how you approach your work. You will also be responsible for ensuring the environment is safe, tidy, and meets a high standard of cleanliness.

The contracted hours are Full Time 37.5 hours per week across seven days. You will be on a shift rota at our Hillingdon and Mount Vernon Hospital sites.

• To provide support to the Imaging service, undertaking patient registration, workload management and assisting in the clinical environment to provide optimum patient care.
• To provide support to consultant radiologists, radiographers, sonographers with patient care and ensuring being a chaperone in clinical environment providing optimum patient care.
• To perform IV cannulation for patients undergoing contrast-enhanced imaging procedures (CT, MRI, NM) following Trust training and competency sign-off.
• To set up trolleys for imaging procedures both sterile and non-sterile, using guidelines given.
• To assist the Radiologists & Radiographers in specialist sessions taking responsibility for patient care throughout the examination by observing and assisting and comforting when necessary.
• To deal with verbal and telephone requests
• To assist effectively with patients in a variety of environments i.e. multiple trauma cases, ultrasound, theatre, fluoroscopy suites, mammography and to maintain a professional demeanour in potentially distressing circumstances.
• To maintain stock levels, when necessary, within the imaging department from the imaging stores.
• At times may need to undertake reception, clerical and other support duties.
