Job summary

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board invites applications for a specialty registrar or equivalent to develop experience toward a paediatric consultant career while working on our general paediatric and neonatal rota. The post includes inpatient and neonatal care and time in outpatient clinics with consultants, plus engagement in governance, audits and QI projects.

A personalised development plan (PDP) with a dedicated supervisor will guide your progression.

Qualifications

• MRCPCH or equivalent qualification is required.
• Valid provider status in APLS and NLS is required.
• Full GMC registration with Licence to Practise is required.
• Completed at least four years' postgraduate training (full-time or equivalent) in paediatrics.
• Experience in a paediatric NHS assessment unit.
• Six months' experience at tier 2 level in a level 2 neonatal unit (or higher).
• Evidence of teaching experience.
• up-to-date Level 3 safeguarding training.
• Evidence of completing audits/quality improvement projects and implementing changes to practice.
• Sub-speciality paediatric experience is desirable.
• Experience in leading teams and NHS management.
• Experience with MDT working and reflective practice.

Responsibilities

• Cover neonatal and paediatric inpatient and acute care on the general rota.
• Work alongside a consultant in general paediatric outpatient clinics.
• Participate in governance activities including updating guidelines, audits and quality improvement projects.
• Contribute to departmental education activities.
• Dedicated time to develop your personalised development plan (PDP) with a consultant supervisor.

Education

MRCPCH or equivalent

Valid provider status in APLS and NLS

Full GMC registration with Licence to Practise

Completed at least four years' full-time postgraduate training

Experience of working in a paediatric assessment unit in the NHS

6 months experience working at tier 2 level in a level 2 neonatal unit (or above) in the NHS

Job description

This post will be of interest to a specialty registrar or equivalent level practitioner to develop experience and skills in areas relevant to a future career as a paediatric consultant whilst working clinically as a middle grade doctor on our general paediatric and neonatal rota. This is a specific fixed term role which provides potential opportunities to gain experience in medical education, safeguarding, departmental governance or in more specialist district general paediatric areas such as community paediatrics, LNU neonates (local neonatal until level care) or a specialist area of paediatrics. The successful candidate will be on the full shift rota for general paediatrics and neonates where you will cover neonatal and paediatric inpatient and acute care. The remainder of the time within the role will be allocated to work alongside a consultant in general paediatric outpatient clinics, with an expectation of participation in governance activities such as updating guidelines, undertaking audits and quality improvements projects and departmental education activities. There will also be dedicated time to work towards your own personalised development plan (PDP). You will be allocated a consultant supervisor who will help guide with development and achievement of your PDP.
