Job summary

The Lister Hospital in Stevenage is recruiting a Locum Consultant in Paediatrics to support high-quality, patient-centred care and contribute to strategic service planning. You will participate in multidisciplinary meetings, supervise trainees, and lead education initiatives while maintaining clinical governance and safeguarding standards within the NHS Trust.

The post requires an MRCPCH and a current GMC licence to practice, with experience in a broad paediatric range and a proven track record

Qualifications

• GMC licence to practice required with MRCPCH or equivalent.
• Postgraduate safeguarding training (Level 3) or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Maintain high-quality, patient-centred care within the service.
• Contribute to day-to-day management and strategic planning.
• Teach and train within the multidisciplinary service.
• Participate in MDT meetings and clinical governance activity.
• Engage in continuing medical education and audit/quality improvement.

Job description

Qualifications

• Entry on GMC with licence to practice
• College Membership (MRCPCH) or qualification of an equivalent level
• Level 3 (or equivalent) training in safeguarding and experience of safeguarding work

Desirable

• Postgraduate academic degree (or equivalent)
• APLS/EPALS/NLS instructor

Experience

• Broad range of experience in Paediatrics
• Demonstrable experience in a Locum Consultant role
• Experience of supervising undergraduates, doctors in training and other colleagues
• Ability to offer and be accountable for full and independent expert diagnostic opinion

Desirable

• Published papers and original work in peer reviewed journals
• Demonstrate an understanding of the basic principles of audit, evidence-based practice, and clinical quality improvement initiatives
• Demonstrable experience and participation in research

Skills

• Able to evidence engagement with clinical governance and the identification of errors and the learning from errors
• Evidence engagement with appraisal and revalidation
• Able to show situational awareness and application of good decision making
• Ability to effectively teach clinical skills

Knowledge

• Demonstrate understanding of basic principles of audit, evidence-based practice, and clinical quality improvement initiatives
• Comprehensive knowledge and insight regarding all the domains within the GMC standards of Good Medical Practice
