Who are Cambridge Cognition and what do we do?

We are a talented global team based in the UK, Canada and USA. Backed by over 30 years of scientific discovery and validation, Cambridge Cognition offers the end-to-end platform for CNS clinical trials. Our technologies are reliable in-clinic or at home for an improved patient experience and accelerated drug development.

We aim to make an extraordinary impact by improving the health of people worldwide with innovative assessments and digital biomarkers that provide researchers with precise measures of patients’ symptoms. We lead in CNS research and are broadening our impact across therapeutic areas.

Are you interested in working for a company whose main goal is to make a difference to the health of current and future generations, through the knowledge and experience of our passionate team?

Role Summary:

We're looking for a Data Manager to take ownership of data management activities across a portfolio of clinical studies, from start-up through to database lock and final transfer. You'll work at the point where clinical data quality meets client relationships, and you'll be expected to question how things are currently done, not just execute the existing process. This is a role for someone who treats data integrity as a craft, not a checklist, and who's motivated by the fact that the numbers you clean and reconcile ultimately support real regulatory and clinical decisions.

What you’ll be doing:
  • Coordinate data management activities for assigned studies, from kick-off through to database lock and final data transfer, owning the outcome, not just the task list
  • Act as the primary DM point of contact for clients, building relationships based on transparency and trust rather than simply reporting status
  • Develop and maintain Data Management Plans, Data Transfer Agreements, and associated GCP documentation, looking for opportunities to improve clarity and rigour rather than reusing templates by default
  • Perform data cleaning, query management, and reconciliation, treating discrepancies as something to understand and resolve at the root, not just close out
  • Set up, test, and manage data transfers; develop production data transfer code and QC processes, staying alert to smarter or more reliable ways of doing this as tools and practice evolve
  • Build and maintain custom client reports and data extracts using ETL tools, asking what would genuinely add value for the client, not just what's been asked for
  • Provide estimates of time and cost for DM deliverables, and manage timelines against SLAs, communicating openly and early when priorities or risks shift
  • Review study priorities regularly, escalating early and constructively when something needs to change rather than waiting for it to become a problem
  • Support audits and regulatory inspections by explaining our end-to-end DM process clearly and standing behind the reasoning, not just the paperwork
  • Actively challenge existing SOPs and work instructions where they're no longer fit for purpose, and share what you learn with the wider team so improvements don't stay siloed with you
  • Work closely with clinical scientists, statisticians, project managers, and third-party clients, valuing their expertise and adjusting your approach based on what actually helps the study, not just your own workflow
The team

You’ll join a data management team that works closely with clinical scientists, statisticians, and project managers, as well as directly with clients and third-party sponsors. We rely on people flagging problems early, sharing knowledge openly rather than guarding it, and holding each other to account when a deliverable affects someone else's timeline. If you've got a better way of doing something, we want to hear it — and we expect the same challenge back from you.

What we need from you:

We're looking for someone who brings real rigour to their work and genuinely enjoys finding a better way of doing things. To be successful, you should have:

Essential Requirements:
  • Experience in a Clinical Data Manager, Clinical Data Coordinator, or similar data management role within a clinical trial environment
  • Practical experience of an Electronic Data Capture tool and awareness of ICH-GCP data management working practices
  • The use of AI to analyse data as well as the curiosity and confidence to learn new tools quickly when a better option exists
  • Foundational understanding of clinical trial and drug development lifecycle or interest in clinical research
  • A methodical, detail-oriented approach with strong root-cause analysis skills, and the persistence to keep digging when an easy answer doesn't hold up
  • Experience maintaining data quality records and documentation to GCP standard, understanding why the rigour matters rather than treating it as box-ticking
  • Confidence managing multiple studies and deadlines simultaneously, adapting your approach as protocols and priorities change
  • Strong written and verbal communication, including direct client-facing experience, comfortable having honest conversations, not just easy ones
  • Ability to work autonomously, while knowing when to flag a problem rather than quietly absorbing it
  • A track record of asking "why do we do it this way?" and following through when the answer suggests something should change
  • A relevant degree (life sciences, mathematics, or similar) is welcome but not required, we're equally interested in candidates who've built this experience on the job.
Desirable Requirements:
  • Basic programming skills using languages like Python, SQL, SAS or R
  • Comfortable experimenting with curiosity, potentially through vibe coding experience
  • Version control experience (e.g. Git)
  • Practical working knowledge of CDISC SDTM/ADaM
  • Experience of FDA/MHRA compliance requirements or participating in sponsor audits/regulatory inspections
  • SCDM certification

Even if you don't have all the experience we've listed we’d still love to hear from you if you're interested.

What we can offer you
  • Be part of a driven team to achieve commercial success and make an extraordinary impact on global health
  • Flexibility – 2 days a week at our office in Bottisham, just outside Cambridge; and 3 days from home
  • 26 days annual leave per year plus bank holidays (including 3 days for Christmas break) with a holiday buy/sell scheme
  • Generous pension with up to 6.5% company contribution
  • Life assurance 4x base salary
  • Employee Assistance Programme (EAP)
  • Private Health Insurance - Bupa Insurance and Medicash Cashback Scheme
Our commitment

We're committed to building an inclusive workplace and welcome applications from all backgrounds. If you need any adjustments to take part in our recruitment process, please let us know, and we'll be happy to accommodate.
