Job summary

Aneurin Bevan University Health Board is seeking a part-time Clinical Coding Support Officer to join the Clinical Coding Department at the Royal Gwent Hospital. This fixed-term/secondment post runs for 12 months until 30 September 2027, with permission from current line manager required for applications.

The role supports location and tracking of casenotes, works with coding staff, and requires Welsh language ability to be desirable; English or Welsh speakers are welcome.

  • Good communication skills are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in locating casenotes required by The Clinical Coding Department.
  • Work closely with Clinical Coding Co-ordinator and staff.
  • Develop good working relationships with secretarial and other staff handling health records.
  • Assist in tracking casenotes into and out of The Coding Department.
  • Return casenotes to other departments where applicable.
  • Provide annual leave/sickness cover for the Clinical Coding Support Officer.
  • Perform basic data entry.
  • Maintain confidentiality per Information Governance guidelines.

Job Overview

We are seeking to recruit a Clinical Coding Support Officer to join the Clinical Coding Department at the Royal Gwent Hospital. This role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals seeking part-time employment that can be worked around other commitments, while also providing valuable exposure to and experience within the field of Clinical Coding.

This post is a fixed term/secondment for 12 months until 30th Sept 2027 to meet the needs of the service. If you are interested in applying for the secondment position, you must obtain permission from your current line manager prior to applying for this post.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job
  • To assist in the location of casenotes required by The Clinical Coding Department.
  • To work closely with Clinical Coding Co-ordinator and all Clinical Coding staff.
  • To develop good working relationships with secretarial and other staff who handle health records.
