You will be joining an established commercial team in Reading, working closely with experienced Client Directors and Managers while taking responsibility for the day-to-day servicing of your own client relationships. The role offers a good balance between support and autonomy, making it particularly well suited to someone who has developed a strong grounding in Account Handling and now wants broader exposure and greater responsibility.
The opportunity
As a Client Advisor, you will be closely involved throughout the lifecycle of each client account rather than simply processing renewals and adjustments. You will get to know the businesses you support, understand their insurance requirements and work with both clients and insurers to make sure cover remains appropriate as those businesses develop.
There is a genuine focus on professional development, with support available for CII qualifications and longer-term progression within commercial broking.
What the role looks like
Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing day-to-day client queries, renewals, amendments and mid-term adjustments.
- Supporting Client Directors and Managers with the retention and development of existing commercial accounts.
- Developing a thorough understanding of each client's business, risks and insurance requirements.
- Building strong working relationships with both clients and insurers.
- Preparing accurate information for insurers and supporting the negotiation and placement of commercial risks.
- Taking ownership of client issues and seeing them through to a satisfactory resolution.
- Producing accurate client documentation and maintaining up-to-date records.
- Working within FCA requirements and internal compliance procedures.
Who this could suit
- You are likely to have around three to five years' experience within commercial insurance broking and could currently be working as a Commercial Account Handler, Client Advisor, Broker or in a similar servicing role.
- You will need a good grounding across commercial insurance, confidence dealing directly with clients and insurers, and the ability to manage renewals and mid-term requirements without needing close supervision.
- Acturis experience would be useful but is not essential, while Cert CII or progress towards professional qualifications would be welcomed. More important is that you understand commercial broking, communicate well and take responsibility for the standard of service you provide.
The business
- This is an established independent brokerage which has retained a noticeably personal culture as it has grown. Clients receive direct access to the people managing their insurance rather than being pushed through a call-centre model, and the business places considerable emphasis on long-term relationships, technical advice and service.
- For someone coming from a larger or more process-driven broker, the appeal is the opportunity to work in an environment where people are encouraged to contribute ideas, develop professionally and build genuine relationships with their clients.
Package and working pattern
- The salary is up to £40,000 depending on experience, with a wider benefits package and support towards professional development and CII qualifications.
- The role is based in Reading and operates on a hybrid basis, with three days per week in the office.
