Job summary

Total Finance Management is seeking an experienced Client Accountant to manage a portfolio of clients and deliver accounting and tax work from start to finish. You will be the main contact for clients, answering queries by telephone and email, keeping work on track and providing clear, practical guidance.

The role requires SME accounting experience, year-end accounts, corporation tax computations, Self Assessment and VAT work.

Qualifications

• Experience working in an accountancy practice with SMEs and owner-managed businesses.
• Experience preparing year-end accounts, corporation tax computations and Self Assessment returns.
• Ability to manage client work independently, organise deadlines and follow queries through to completion.
• Confidence communicating with clients and explaining technical matters clearly.
• AAT, ACCA or ACA qualification or part qualification, or equivalent experience gained in practice.
• Experience with FreeAgent, TaxCalc or similar software would be helpful.

Responsibilities

• Prepare Self Assessment tax returns for sole traders and directors.
• Prepare and file VAT returns, resolving bookkeeping and reconciliation issues.
• Respond to client questions by phone and email, explaining accounting and tax matters.
• Provide practical guidance on payroll, cash flow and day-to-day financial management.
• Prepare management accounts and support budgets, forecasts and cash flow reports.
• Manage jobs and deadlines using BrightManager.
• Handle company secretarial filings and statutory records using CoSec.
• Liaise with HMRC on behalf of clients and identify ways to improve client processes.

Total Finance Management provides outsourced finance and accountancy services to small businesses across the UK. We are looking for an experienced Client Accountant to manage a portfolio of clients and deliver their accounting and tax work from start to finish.

You will be the main point of contact for your clients, answering questions by telephone and email, keeping work on track and offering clear, practical guidance. This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys taking ownership of their work and building strong client relationships.

• Prepare year-end statutory accounts and corporation tax computations from start to finish, including gathering information, resolving queries and submitting final returns.
• Prepare Self Assessment tax returns for sole traders, company directors and other individuals.
• Prepare and file VAT returns, resolving bookkeeping and reconciliation issues before deadlines.
• Respond to client questions by telephone and email, explaining accounting and tax matters.
• Provide practical guidance on payroll, cash flow and day-to-day financial management, escalating specialist matters when needed.
• Prepare management accounts and support budgets, forecasts and cash flow reports.
• Manage jobs and deadlines using BrightManager.
• Handle company secretarial filings and statutory records using CoSec.
• Liaise with HMRC on behalf of clients and identify ways to improve client processes.

What we’re looking for
