Job summary

Grove Learning Trust is recruiting Clerks to Governors to support Local Governance Committees across Swindon. This permanent role fits around school term-time meetings and some evening sessions, with annualised hours of about 82 per school.

You will take accurate minutes, provide governance guidance, and maintain records of decisions and actions. Strong organisation, written communication, confidentiality and proficiency with MS Office and Teams are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Take and produce accurate, concise minutes of Local Governance Committee meetings.
  • Provide guidance and advice on governance to school governors.
  • Record meetings, decisions and action points for accountability.
  • Support clerking across one or more schools, including evening meetings during term time.

Job description

The vacancy

Contract: Permanent

Hours: Approximately 82 annualised hours per school per year (equivalent to 1.89 hours per week), paid in equal monthly instalments throughout the year.

We currently have three vacancies supporting Local Governing Committees across the Swindon.

Candidates may apply for one school or multiple schools, enabling them to build a larger role. Additional schools may also be added to contracts over time, subject to availability and mutual agreement.

Local Governance Committee meetings take place during school term time, usually in the evening, although there are some daytime and late afternoon options. While the role is paid throughout the year, the majority of work is undertaken during term time.

We couldn’t do what we do without our fantastic clerking team, and you would play a key role in supporting our schools and Local Governance Committees, providing guidance and advice on governance. This is fantastic opportunity to join us on our journey, working in a key role to ensure our local governors are fully supported, and a record is made of meetings, decisions and action points.

Previous experience of clerking, governance or working within education would be advantageous, but it is not essential. We welcome applications from candidates with transferable administrative, organisational and communication skills, and full training and ongoing support will be provided.
