Job summary

Gi Group has an exciting opportunity for a Clerk of Works to join a public sector client, driving quality across construction, refurbishment and maintenance works. You’ll perform on-site quality inspections, ensuring works meet safety, specification and required standards with one admin day per week in the office.

This field-based role requires strong reporting, stakeholder communication, and willingness to travel within the assigned region, along with a full UK driving licence and proficiency

Qualifications

• Regular site inspections to verify workmanship, materials and conformance to spec.
• Ability to identify defects, report findings and support mitigation actions.
• Proven experience in clerk of works or site inspection and quality assurance in construction/refurbishment.

Responsibilities

• Complete regular site inspections, assessing workmanship, materials and adherence to specification.
• Identify defects, deviations and risks; report and support mitigation actions.
• Monitor works across foundations, envelope, services, fit-out, and landscaping.
• Check site safety plans compliance and raise H&S concerns when needed.
• Maintain issue/risk logs and contribute to continuous improvement.

GI Group has an exciting opportunity for a Clerk of Works to join a public sector client, helping to drive quality across construction, refurbishment and maintenance works.

You’ll be responsible for on-site quality inspections, ensuring works are delivered safely, to specification and to the required standards, and producing clear reports on findings. This is a field-based role with 1 day per week office-based admin.

Key responsibilities:

• Complete regular site inspections (workmanship, materials, compliance to specification/contract)
• Identify and report defects, deviations and risks, and support mitigation actions
• Monitor works including foundations, building envelope, services, fit‑out, infrastructure and landscaping
• Check compliance with site safety plans and raise any H&S concerns
• Maintain issue/risk logs and contribute to lessons learned / continuous improvement
• Build strong working relationships and support resolution of delivery issues (“no surprises” reporting)
• Proven experience in a Clerk of Works / site inspection / quality assurance role (construction, maintenance or refurbishment)
• Strong technical knowledge and confidence challenging poor workmanship/non‑compliance
• Strong written reporting and stakeholder communication skills
• Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel within the assigned region
• Good IT skills including the use of MS Office applications
• Professional Professional membership: ICWCI and/or CIOB (or working towards)
• Public sector experience
• Experience in housing / social housing
