Job summary

Leicester City Council's Cleansing Services is recruiting a full-time street cleansing operative based at Castle Park Depot, 90 Leycroft Road, Leicester. 37 hours per week on a rota from 5:15am to 8:30pm, Monday to Saturday, with travel around the city.

You will remove litter and detritus, support snow clearance in winter, maintain health and safety standards, and report hazards. A full category B driving licence is essential.

Qualifications

• Physically fit for extended manual work and walking up to 10 miles daily in all weather.
• Ability to use cleaning chemicals and equipment safely and correctly.
• Good communication and teamwork, with polite public interaction.
• Positive attitude and enthusiasm for keeping streets clean.
• Full category B driving licence is essential.

Responsibilities

• Remove litter, leaves, detritus, illegal dumping, dog fouling, graffiti, street wash and empty bins in your area.
• Support snow clearance during winter months.
• Maintain health and safety standards while working on the streets.
• Report hazards such as needles, asbestos and hazardous waste to your Team Leader.

Job description

Help keep streets clean and tidy for residents and visitors to Leicester. Cleansing Services provide street cleaning operations to maintain a clean environment across the city and work in the heart of the communities to ensure local areas are safe and free from environmental issues.

Full‑time, permanent role – 37 hours per week, Monday to Saturday on a rota basis (5:15 am to 8:30 pm). Working hours and shifts are flexible and you will be based at Castle Park Depot, 90 Leycroft Road, but will travel around the city. A full category B driving licence is essential.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Remove litter, leaves, detritus, illegal dumping, dog fouling, graffiti, street wash and empty litter bins in your designated area
• Support snow clearance during winter months
• Maintain health and safety standards while working on the streets
• Report environmental hazards such as hypodermic needles, asbestos and hazardous waste to your Team Leader

What You’ll Need

• Physically fit to undertake continuous manual work and walk approx. 10 miles per day in all weather conditions
• Ability to use chemicals and cleaning equipment safely
• Good communication and interpersonal skills – able to work effectively in a team and respond politely to members of the public
• Positive attitude and enthusiasm for keeping streets clean
• Full category B driving licence
