Job summary

Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, invites applications for a Research Assistant (Cleanroom) in the Single-Photon Group. The post is full-time, fixed-term for 4 months, at Grade 6 (£31,236–£36,636 p.a.), with 33 days’ annual leave plus 9 closed days for full-time staff.

The role supports semiconductor sample preparation, device fabrication and analysis in a state-of-the-art cleanroom, contributing to quantum photonics projects and collaborations.

Qualifications

• MEng/PhD (or equivalent) in Electronic/Electrical/Chemistry Engineering or a related discipline.
• Analytical and technical problem-solving skills.
• IT skills, proficient in the use of computers and general software.
• Good communication and presentation skills.
• Team player with good interpersonal skills.
• Willingness to travel and perform laboratory work with partner institutes.
• Availability to commence by 1 Nov 2026.

Responsibilities

• Work with colleagues and line manager in the cleanroom.
• Semiconductor sample preparation.
• Device fabrication.
• Manage the consumables in the cleanroom.
