Job summary

NHFM, a wholly owned subsidiary of Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, is seeking a Domestic Assistant for Seaton Delaval Factory Hub. You will join the domestic team to maintain cleanliness and safety across wards, departments and offices, making a real difference to patient care.

We offer flexible morning/afternoon shifts, competitive pay and NHS terms. Training on hygiene, safety and DBS may be provided; diverse applicants are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

  • Basic Numerate & literate skills required.
  • Customer service training desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Clean designated areas to high standards using approved methods.
  • Undertake deep cleans where required and manage waste disposal.
  • Maintain sanitary facilities and report safety concerns.
  • Participate in training on hygiene, fire safety and health and safety regulations.

The department operates between 5 days per week and we have both morning/ afternoon shifts available.

Main duties of the job

Quite simply, the NHS could not function without our Domestics! Every single service in the Trust relies on domestics to keep the place clean and safe for patients, visitors and staff. You’ll be part of a team striving to maintain the highest cleanliness standards in wards, departments, corridors and offices, and in doing so making a real difference to the NHS.

The successful candidate will maintain the standard of cleanliness as specified throughout the designated work area by means of approved cleaning methods.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
  • Cleaning of floor areas as scheduled by means of vacuuming, mopping, buffing and spray cleaning.
  • Undertake “deep cleans” in areas where infection is present.
  • Removal of rubbish including domestic and clinical waste from designated areas to disposal point.
  • Cleaning of sanitary areas, toilet, sinks, shower cubicles and staff changing areas.
  • Damp dusting of all surfaces, ledges, shelves, curtain rails.
  • Cleaning of internal glass.
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness in all work areas.
  • Carry out any urgent spot cleaning and spillage.
  • Participate in training programmes relevant to efficiency, fire drills, hygiene, the requirements of the health and safety at Work regulations and other courses as deemed necessary for the efficient working of the department.
  • Any other duties as deemed appropriate.
Person specification
Qualifications / Professional Registration
  • Basic Numerate & Literate Skills
  • NVQ Level 1 or 2 or equivalent
  • GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent)
  • Basic Food Hygiene and/or Level 1 Food Safety Certificate or must be achieved within 6 months of start date
