Job summary

Gwynedd Council in Wales is seeking a cleaner to join our school premises team. You will work as part of a team to keep designated areas clean and hygienic, following council policies and Welsh language requirements where applicable.

The role emphasizes health and safety, proper waste disposal, litter collection and use of basic cleaning equipment. Prior cleaning experience is preferred; training will be provided, with a bilingual working environment.

Qualifications

  • Experience in cleaning or housekeeping.

Responsibilities

  • Clean, wash, sweep and vacuum designated areas.
  • Empty litter and recycling bins.
  • Polish and dust furniture and fixtures.
  • Clean toilets and replenish supplies.
  • Move between areas as required and assist in other duties as needed.
  • Follow Health and Safety policies and data handling guidelines.

Job Description

Purpose of the post

  • Ensure that the people of Gwynedd are at the heart of everything we do.
  • To undertake, as part of a team, the cleaning of designated areas within the school premises to ensure that they are kept in a clean and hygienic condition.

Responsibility for functions

  • EquipmentMain duties
  • Cleaning, washing, sweeping and vacuum cleaning.
  • Emptying litter and re-cycling bins.
  • Polishing and dusting of designated areas including furniture and fixtures.
  • Cleaning toilets and shower areas, replenish toilet paper and soap.
  • There is a requirement, when appropriate, to use powered equipment.
  • The duties may vary between terms and school closure periods.
  • There will, on occasions, be a requirement for you to move between areas.
  • Responsibility for self-development.
  • Ensure compliance with Health and Safety rules in the workplace in accordance with the responsibilities noted in the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and the Council’s Health and Safety Policy.
  • Operate within the Council’s policies in relation to equal opportunities and equality.
  • Responsible for managing information in accordance with the Council’s information management guidelines. Ensure that personal information is treated in accordance with Data Protection legislation.
  • Commitment to reducing the Council’s carbon emissions in accordance with the Carbon Management Plan, and to encourage others to act positively towards reducing the Council’s Carbon Footprint.
  • Undertake any other reasonable duty which corresponds to the salary level and responsibility level of the job.
