Job summary

Northumbria Police in Berwick-upon-Tweed is seeking a Cleaner for an on-site, permanent role. The position covers 10 hours per week, with 2 hours per day from Monday to Friday, and a flexible start time between 6am and 10am.

The role involves cleaning washrooms and kitchens using specialist equipment, vacuuming and mopping floors, operating floor machines, and maintaining health and safety standards. It’s a practical, team-facing position.

Qualifications

• This role requires physical work and the ability to use cleaning equipment safely.
• Knowledge of health and safety practices related to cleaning is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Using specialist equipment and chemicals to clean washrooms and kitchens.
• Vacuuming and mopping floors.
• Use of floor machines such as floor scrubber/dryers.
• Emptying bins and other general cleaning duties.
• Maintaining up to date knowledge of health and safety legislation and complying with cleaning safety standards.
• This is a physical role which also requires working at height.

Our Business Services team keep things running smoothly for all of us here at Northumbria Police. They are a large team covering various services, including maintenance, health and safety, and supporting Front Line Policing. We’ve got a great opportunity to join the Business Services team as a Cleaner, where you’ll play an integral part in keeping our stations clean, safe, and functional.

Unlike your typical cleaning role, you’ll be working behind the scenes in our operational police station. You’ll take pride in your work and be part of a fantastic team who work hard to achieve great results. It’s a busy role – with a great sense of achievement at the end of each shift.
