Job summary

OFG Education is hiring a Cleaner at Abbey Gardens School, Bury St Edmunds, IP32 6SA. The role is 20 hours per week, 3pm–7pm, Monday to Friday, with permanent contract and term-time only. Salary £13.25 per hour (not pro rata). Start Oct 2026.

You will help maintain a clean, safe and welcoming environment for students and staff, working as part of the Site and Facilities Team to ensure classrooms and communal areas meet high hygiene standards.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out daily cleaning across classrooms and communal areas.
  • Clean floors, surfaces, fixtures and fittings to high standards.
  • Maintain hygiene in toilets and changing areas.
  • Empty rubbish and dispose of waste safely.
  • Replenish soap, towels and toilet tissue as needed.
  • Keep cleaning equipment tidy and stored safely.
  • Perform deep-cleaning tasks when required.
  • Collaborate with Site and Facilities Team to keep the school welcoming.

We are seeking a dedicated and reliable Cleaner to join our team and help create a clean, safe and welcoming environment for children and vulnerable adults. Your work will play a vital role in supporting their wellbeing, comfort and day-to-day experience. As part of a friendly and supportive team, you'll take pride in maintaining high standards across our setting, ensuring that learning and living spaces are clean, hygienic and ready for each day. Main Duties & Responsibilities
  • Carry out daily cleaning across classrooms, communal areas and other parts of the school.
  • Clean floors, surfaces, fixtures, fittings and internal areas to a high standard.
  • Maintain excellent levels of hygiene in toilets, changing areas and sanitary facilities.
  • Empty bins and dispose of waste safely and appropriately.
  • Replenish essential supplies including soap, paper towels and toilet tissue.
  • Keep cleaning equipment and materials clean, organised and stored safely.
  • Complete occasional deep-cleaning and additional cleaning tasks when required.
  • Work alongside the wider Site and Facilities Team to ensure the school remains clean, safe and welcoming.

  • Previous cleaning experience would be helpful, but it isn't essential.

Abbey Gardens is a brand-new specialist school, part of Acorn Education, supporting young people aged 11 16 with SEMH needs. Opened in June 2026, we provide a nurturing, inclusive environment where every student is supported to thrive.
