Job summary

Autism East Midlands is seeking a Pathway 1 Class Teacher at Sutherland House School in Nottingham. The role focuses on providing highly personalised education for autistic pupils aged 3–19 within a sensory and engagement-based curriculum.

You will collaborate with assistants, therapists and families to support meaningful progress. The successful candidate will deliver person-centred education, promote communication and independence, and lead within a supportive team.

Qualifications

  • Experience with autistic pupils and/or additional needs environment desirable but training will be given.

Full Time Class Teacher – Pathway 1

Salary: Main Pay Scale 1 – 6 + SEN Allowance (£32,916-£45,342) + SEN £2,787

Sutherland House School is a non-maintained specialist school for autistic children and young people aged 3-19. We are seeking an enthusiastic and committed Pathway 1 Class Teacher to join our highly supportive team.


Pathway 1 supports pupils with complex learning, communication, sensory and physical needs. The successful candidate will provide a safe, nurturing and low-arousal learning environment, delivering highly personalised learning experiences through a sensory and engagement-based curriculum. Working closely with teaching assistants, therapists and families, you will support pupils to make meaningful progress in communication, emotional regulation, independence and participation.


As part of a supportive staff team, you will have a passion for improving the lives for autistic pupils and their families. We are looking for someone who can deliver highly person-centred education, supporting young people to develop the skills, confidence and independence they need for their next steps beyond school. You will have a commitment to planning and delivering engaging lessons and you will engage with a wide range of professionals, including therapists to ensure all pupils are reaching their full potential. You will hold responsibility for supporting and leading your team who will work towards person-centred planning for each individual pupil.


Previous experience with supporting autistic pupils or teaching in an additional need’s environment is desirable however full training and support will be given.
