Job summary

Driver Hire in Okehampton is seeking an experienced HGV Class 2 Refuse Driver for ongoing local waste and recycling collections. This hands-on role combines driving with crew duties on local routes, Monday to Friday, with regular weekday shifts.

You will perform daily vehicle checks, assist with loading, and adhere to health and safety rules. The position offers weekly pay, earnings of £17.37–£21.72 per hour (PAYE), and long-term prospects with a friendly local recruitment team.

Qualifications

• No more than 6 penalty points
• Ability to travel to the Okehampton depot for early morning starts
• Physically fit and able to undertake manual handling duties
• Mobile phone for communication with the team
• Previous refuse, recycling or waste collection experience
• Good knowledge of local routes across Devon

Responsibilities

• Driving a Class 2 refuse vehicle on planned waste and recycling routes
• Assisting the collection crew with loading, moving and emptying bins
• Carrying out daily vehicle safety checks and reporting any defects
• Completing route paperwork and delivery documentation accurately
• Following all health and safety procedures, site rules and driver hours regulations
• Working closely with the wider team to ensure collections are completed efficiently
• Carrying out manual handling duties as part of the collection process
