Job summary

Gi Group is recruiting for Class 2 drivers to support a local authority’s waste and refuse collection in Huntingdon.

Role involves leading a small crew, performing daily checks and maintaining records in‑cab. The position runs Monday–Friday, 06:00–14:00, with overtime at 1.5x after 37.5 hours. Newly qualified drivers are welcome to apply.

Qualifications

• Category C (Class 2) licence and Driver CPC are required.
• Physically fit to move bins and walk several miles daily.
• Strong awareness of Health & Safety and working near highways.
• Good written and verbal communication; literate and numerate.

Responsibilities

• Lead a refuse/recycling round, manage crew performance and safety.
• Ensure compliance with Health & Safety, DVSA rules, PPE and council policies.
• Carry out daily vehicle checks, report defects and prevent overloads.
• Maintain real‑time records via the in-cab system (collections, missed bins, issues).
• Collect domestic/commercial waste and recycling, including bulky items and special collections.
• Deliver/collect wheeled bins and sacks, support other crews when required.

New Passes Accepted - Class 2 Refuse Driver

We are looking for Class 2 drivers to support our client in the Huntingdon area.

Join Gi Group to support the waste and refuse collection operation of a local authority. We are currently recruiting for Class 2 drivers.

Location: Huntingdonshire

Service: Environmental and Community Services

£19.61 per hour (PAYE) advanced holiday inclusive*

Working Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday-Friday 06:00-14:00

Overtime: after 37.5 hours overtime is paid x1.5

Key Responsibilities

• Lead a refuse/recycling round, managing crew performance, conduct and safety.
• Ensure full compliance with Health & Safety, DVSA rules, PPE use and council policies.
• Carry out daily vehicle checks, defect reporting and ensure vehicles are not overloaded.
• Maintain accurate, real-time records via the in‑cab system (collections, missed bins, issues).
• Collect domestic/commercial waste and recycling, including litter bins, bulky items and special collections.
• Deliver/collect wheeled bins and sacks and support other crews when required.

Requirements

• Category C (Class 2) licence and valid Driver CPC .
• Physically fit - able to move bins/bags and walk several miles per day.
• Strong awareness of Health & Safety and working near highways.
• Good written and verbal communication skills; literate and numerate.
• Experience supervising a small team and making sound decisions under pressure.
• Able to build positive relationships with customers and colleagues and handle complaints professionally.
