Job summary

Gi Group United Kingdom is seeking Class 1 Shunter Driver for ongoing work in Ryton-on-Dunsmore. You will load, unload and move trailers safely using a Terberg tug in a yard environment.

Shifts run 7 days a week with day and night starts; pay ranges from £18.50–£28.01 inWeeks1-12 and rises after 12 weeks, with bank holiday rates. Full Gi Group benefits and training support provided.

Qualifications

• Valid HGV Class 1 (C+E) licence, Driver CPC, and Digital Tachograph card.
• Minimum age 21 for insurance purposes.
• 6 months shunting experience or 2 years driving preferred.
• Maximum of 6 penalty points (SP endorsements only).

Responsibilities

• Load, unload, and secure freight safely.
• Use Terberg (Tug) shunting vehicle in the yard.
• Move trailers across the yard efficiently.
• Perform daily vehicle checks and report defects.
• Meet timed shunts for deliveries.

Class 1 Shunter Driver

• Our client in Ryton-on-Dunsmore requires some ongoing shunting work
• Candidates will complete an assessment followed by 2/3 site specific shunting training
• Upon successful completion of the assessment, candidates will move into ongoing work with our client

Class 1 Shunter Driver - Rates of Pay: Standard Rate (Weeks 1-12): Day 1

• Days - £18.50 / £20.73 (ADV HOL)
• Nights - £20.00 / £22.41 (ADV HOL)
• Saturday Days - £25.00 / £28.01 (ADV HOL)
• Saturday Nights - £25.00 / £28.01 (ADV HOL)
• Sunday Days - £25.00 / £28.01 (ADV HOL)
• Sunday Nights - £25.00 / £28.01 (ADV HOL)

After 12 weeks

• Days - £20.53 / £23.00 (ADV HOL)
• Nights - £21.03 / £23.56 (ADV HOL)
• Saturday Days - £25.00 / £28.01 (ADV HOL)
• Saturday Nights - £25.00 / £28.01 (ADV HOL)

Class 1 Shunter Driver - Shifts and Hours:

• Shifts available 7 days a week (Part time & full time available)
• Night start windows: 19:00 - 22:00
• Afternoon start windows: 12:00 - 16:00
• Morning start TBC
• Shifts run on average around 10 hours per day

Class 1 Shunter Driver - The Role:

• Load, unload, and secure freight safely
• Using a Terberg (Tug) shunting vehicle in the yard
• Moving trailers across the yard efficiently
• Perform daily vehicle checks and report any defects immediately
• Work efficiently to meet timed shunts for deliveries
• Trailers may include alcohol products

Class 1 Shunter Driver - Requirements & Key Criteria:

• Valid HGV Class 1 (C+E) licence, Driver CPC, and Digital Tachograph card
• Minimum age of 21 for insurance purposes
• 6 months shunting experience/ 2 years driving preferred
• Maximum of 6 penalty points (SP endorsements only; no other endorsement types accepted)
• Must provide a full 2-year work or education history
• Calm under pressure, flexible, with strong customer service, communication, and attention to detail
