Job description

The Role

Canopius is seeking a skilled claims adjuster to join the Specialty Products claims team. The role involves supporting the Specialist Consumer Products underwriters with a diverse range of products including, but not limited to, travel, personal accident, mortgage, and income payment protection. There is also an opportunity to collaborate closely with the A&H claims team, which underwrites similar products.

Our underwriters possess extensive experience in the insurance market, enabling them to write a wide array of risks. This offers the successful candidate a unique chance to develop comprehensive knowledge across these lines of business.

We are looking for an experienced claims professional familiar with handling claims in the London insurance market. The individual will serve as a key referral point, responsible for building internal and external relationships, including with Canopius’ Delegated Claims Administrators. Acting as a subject matter expert for the portfolio and collaborating with the underwriting team are essential aspects of this role.

The SCP & A&H claims teams are part of the wider Specialty Product Division, which also includes Equine, Credit, and Political Risk, within the Claims function. There is potential for cross-training into other classes of business as part of personal development, if desired.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Develop a thorough understanding of claims within the A&H and SCP portfolios.
  2. Ensure proper financial provisions are maintained and reported appropriately.
  3. Proactively adjust claims within authority limits, adhering to Canopius claims manual, and deliver exceptional service by effectively managing claims to resolution.
  4. Nurture collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders, particularly with underwriters.
  5. Coordinate with panel lawyers, adjusters, and experts to achieve optimal outcomes, controlling costs and reducing claims leakage.
  6. Manage delegated claims in line with Canopius’ claims values, ensuring technical oversight of TPAs/Service Providers through regular contact, peer reviews, and sharing best practices.

Skills & Experience:

  • Experience in reviewing and assessing policy coverage for claims in the A&H and SCP classes or similar.
  • Preferred experience as a claims handler in the London market.
  • A passion for learning and development.
  • Strong strategic thinking and communication skills.
  • Collaborative approach to stakeholder management.
  • Professional and appropriate interaction with management.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to take responsibility and accountability.
  • Uphold honesty, integrity, and fairness.
  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines proactively.
  • Customer-focused mindset.
