Job summary

Van Elle, the UK’s largest geotechnical contractor, is seeking a Civils Supervisor to lead civils activities nationwide with regular visits to Kirkby-in-Ashfield and Warrington offices. The role is client facing and involves planning, site supervision, and coordination across multiple sites.

You will supervise site teams, conduct safety briefings, ensure compliance with RAMS and HSEQ, and work with bid teams on tender pricing. UK travel is required.

Qualifications

• SMSTS/SSSTS or equivalent safety qualification required.
• CSCS Gold or Black card holder preferred.
• CITB Temporary Works Supervisor and CPCS Lift Supervisor required.
• First Aid training preferred (FREC).
• Experience supervising site works with RAMS/HSEQ compliance.
• Experience in earthworks, formwork and RC; pile cap knowledge helpful.
• Ability to read structural/steel and formwork drawings.
• Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel UK.

Responsibilities

• Motivate and lead site teams to deliver civils scope.
• Conduct daily safety briefings and toolbox talks.
• Ensure work complies with procedures and safety legislation.
• Maintain accurate site records and diaries for progress.
• Attend site progress meetings and manage resources.
• Ensure labour, plant and materials on site to meet requirements.
• Perform quality checks as per ITP.
• Supervise temporary works design and RAMS development.

Job description

Location: Nationwide - Will require regular visits to our Kirkby in Ashfield and Warrington Offices.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Civils Supervisor to join the UK’s largest and most diverse geotechnical and ground engineering contractor.

To supervise Van Elle’s civils activities on sites ensuring safe, quality delivery on time and to budget. This role is client facing and will represent Van Elle in potentially remote sites. Occasional travel to Van Elle office locations will be required to assist with planning of sites and tenders.

What you'll be doing:

• Motivate and lead site teams to deliver civils scope.
• Confidently carrying out daily safety briefings and toolbox talks
• Ensure all work is conducted in accordance with company procedures and relevant safety legislation.
• Keeping accurate site records / diaries to record progress and any delays
• Attending site progress meetings
• Ensure sufficient labour, plant and materials are on site to fulfil requirements safely
• Undertake relevant quality checks as the ITP requires
• Supervising all items of temporary works design
• Contribute to the development of safe working methods (RAMS, task briefings)
• Communicate effectively and promptly with the Civils Management team to resolve issues quickly
• Build good working relationships with client organisations, suppliers and Van Elle staff
• Work with bid teams to ensure work is accurately priced during tender stage
• Working collaboratively with engineers and others to deliver quality reports
• Reflect and promote Van Elle company values through your work and conduct

Who we're looking for:

• SMSTS or SSSTS
• CSCS Gold or Black
• CITB Temporary Works Supervisor
• CPCS Lift Supervisor
• Formal first aid training (First Response Emergency Care, FREC preferred)
• Experience of supervision and coordination of site works (including subcontractors) in accordance with RAMS, HSEQ and programme requirements
• Experience in earthworks (excavations and installations), formwork and reinforced concrete in general.
• Experience in pile cap construction
• Experience in the construction, commissioning, checking and dismantling of temporary works
• Ability to read and understand technical site drawings (steel, formwork etc)
• Good understanding of current UK health and safety legislation
• Full UK driving license and willingness to travel to locations around the UK
• Experience in undertaking lifting operations

Other Requirements:

• Eligible to work and live in the UK.
• Flexibility to travel across the UK.
• A full driving licence, that is valid in the UK
• Valid CSCS
