Job summary

Van Elle is seeking a Civils Supervisor to manage civils activities across sites in the UK, with regular visits to Kirkby in Ashfield and Warrington offices. You will lead site teams, ensure safety compliance, and drive on-time, on-budget delivery while maintaining client-focused communication.

You will supervise earthworks, temporary works, and pile cap construction, coordinate with engineers and bid teams, and uphold RAMS and HSEQ standards across projects.

Qualifications

• CSCS Gold/Black card and SMSTS/SSSTS required.
• CITB Temporary Works Supervisor and CPCS Lift Supervisor accreditation essential.
• First aid training (FREC preferred).
• Experience supervising site works including subcontractors.
• Experience in earthworks, formwork and reinforced concrete.
• Able to read and interpret site drawings and RAMS.

Responsibilities

• Lead and motivate site teams to deliver civils scope on UK sites.
• Conduct daily safety briefings and toolbox talks.
• Ensure work complies with RAMS, HSEQ and programme requirements.
• Maintain accurate site records/diaries and attend progress meetings.
• Coordinate labour, plant and materials to meet safety and budget goals.
• Perform quality checks per ITP requirements and oversee temporary works design.
• Collaborate with engineers and bid teams for accurate tender pricing.
• Communicate with Civils Management to resolve issues quickly and build client relations.
• Promote Van Elle values in all conduct and work.

Civils Supervisor

Location: Nationwide - Will require regular visits to our Kirkby in Ashfield and Warrington Offices.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Civils Supervisor to join the UK's largest and most diverse geotechnical and ground engineering contractor.

To supervise Van Elle's civils activities on sites ensuring safe, quality delivery on time and to budget. This role is client facing and will represent Van Elle in potentially remote sites. Occasional travel to Van Elle office locations will be required to assist with planning of sites and tenders.

What you'll be doing:

• Motivate and lead site teams to deliver civils scope.
• Confidently carrying out daily safety briefings and toolbox talks
• Ensure all work is conducted in accordance with company procedures and relevant safety legislation.
• Keeping accurate site records / diaries to record progress and any delays
• Attending site progress meetings
• Ensure sufficient labour, plant and materials are on site to fulfil requirements safely
• Undertake relevant quality checks as the ITP requires
• Supervising all items of temporary works design
• Contribute to the development of safe working methods (RAMS, task briefings)
• Communicate effectively and promptly with the Civils Management team to resolve issues quickly
• Build good working relationships with client organisations, suppliers and Van Elle staff
• Work with bid teams to ensure work is accurately priced during tender stage
• Working collaboratively with engineers and others to deliver quality reports
• Reflect and promote Van Elle company values through your work and conduct

Who we're looking for:

• SMSTS or SSSTS
• CSCS Gold or Black
• CITB Temporary Works Supervisor
• CPCS Lift Supervisor
• Formal first aid training (First Response Emergency Care, FREC preferred)
• Experience of supervision and coordination of site works (including subcontractors) in accordance with RAMS, HSEQ and programme requirements
• Experience in earthworks (excavations and installations), formwork and reinforced concrete in general.
• Experience in pile cap construction
• Experience in the construction, commissioning, checking and dismantling of temporary works
• Ability to read and understand technical site drawings (steel, formwork etc)
• Good understanding of current UK health and safety legislation
• Full UK driving license and willingness to travel to locations around the UK
• Experience in undertaking lifting operations

Other Requirements:

• Eligible to work and live in the UK.
• Flexibility to travel across the UK.
• A full driving licence, that is valid in the UK
• Valid CSCS
