Job summary

Urban Connect is seeking a Senior Civils Estimator to join our team for water infrastructure projects. Based primarily in Garstang, Preston, with three days on site per week, you will develop accurate first-principles estimates for self-delivered civils works and work closely with operational teams to ensure commercial viability.

Starting on a freelance basis at £500 per day, this role offers the strong likelihood of moving into a permanent position for the right person and long-term workload

Qualifications

• Significant Civils Estimator experience within construction.
• Proven track record pricing water infrastructure projects.
• Approximately 15 years in construction with civil exposure.
• Strong first-principles estimating capability.
• Confident in interpreting drawings, specifications and construction requirements.

Responsibilities

• Produce detailed first-principles estimates for civil engineering and water infrastructure projects.
• Undertake site visits to understand scope, buildability, constraints, and project requirements.
• Review drawings, specifications, and technical documentation to develop accurate pricing.
• Work collaboratively with delivery teams to ensure estimates reflect practical construction solutions.
• Support the business in securing future projects through high-quality commercial submissions.

The Role

You will play a key role in developing accurate, competitive estimates for self-delivered civil engineering projects, working closely with operational teams to ensure projects are commercially viable and deliverable.

This is a hands-on estimating position suited to someone who enjoys getting involved at an early stage, visiting sites, understanding construction methodologies, and producing robust first-principles estimates.

Key Responsibilities

• Produce detailed first-principles estimates for civil engineering and water infrastructure projects.

About You

• Significant experience as a Civils Estimator within the construction industry.
• Proven experience pricing water infrastructure projects (essential).
• Around 15 years' experience within construction, with exposure to civil engineering and ideally some build background.
• Strong first-principles estimating capability.
• Confidence interpreting drawings, specifications, and construction requirements.
• A proactive approach with excellent attention to detail.
