Job summary

Bennett And Game Recruitment is seeking a Civil Estimator in Canterbury to join a rapidly expanding civil engineering and groundworks contractor. You will work with a Senior Estimator to prepare competitive tenders for civil, groundworks and drainage projects.

Your role includes taking-offs from drawings, producing Bills of Quantities in Excel and estimating software, and coordinating with engineering, procurement, commercial and operations teams. A strong tendering background is essential.

Qualifications

• Previous estimating experience within civil engineering, groundworks, drainage or infrastructure projects.
• Proficient in Excel and estimating software.
• Strong communication across departments.

Responsibilities

This role is part of a rapidly expanding civil engineering and groundworks contractor based in Canterbury. The successful candidate will work alongside a Senior Estimator, preparing competitive tenders across a varied portfolio of civil engineering, groundworks and drainage projects.

Job Overview

• Prepare accurate cost estimates and tender submissions for civil engineering, groundworks and drainage projects.
• Complete quantity take‑offs from drawings and tender documentation.
• Produce Bills of Quantities using estimating software and Microsoft Excel.
• Liaise with engineering, procurement, commercial and operational teams throughout the tender process.
• Obtain and review subcontractor and supplier quotations to ensure competitive pricing.
• Assist in developing tender strategies and compiling submission documentation.
• Support the handover of successful tenders to project delivery teams.
• Maintain labour, plant and material cost databases.
• Work closely with a Senior Estimator, gaining mentoring and career development.

Requirements

• Previous estimating experience within civil engineering, groundworks, drainage or infrastructure projects.
• Background in quantity surveying or civil engineering is advantageous.
• Experience producing competitive tenders and completing quantity take‑offs.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and estimating software.
• Strong communication skills, able to collaborate across multiple departments.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Commutable to Canterbury.
