Job summary

Amey invites applications for a Civil Engineering Summer Placement to join our CAFA team in the Transport Infrastructure Business Unit, based in York. The role offers £12.71 per hour, 37.5 hours per week, starting July 2027, with potential for a Graduate Pathway after completing your studies.

You will work on diverse railway structures across the UK, gain practical experience, and develop skills in analysis, reporting and inspection technologies within a supportive, inclusive environment.

Qualifications

  • Currently studying for a degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • Full UK driving licence or working towards obtaining one.
  • Personal Track Safety (PTS) requirement.
  • Apply all safety requirements when carrying out work.
  • Progression towards professional status.

  • Undertake numerical analysis and assessment calculations to determine the structural load carrying capacity of a variety of structures.
  • Developing innovative solutions to enhance inspection and technical capabilities.

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Civil Engineering Summer Placement to join our CAFA team within Amey's Transport Infrastructure Business Unit, based in York.

Salary: £12.71 per hour (Subject to review)

Location:27 Tanner Row, York, YO1 6JP

Working hours per week: Monday to Friday, 9.00 am to 5.00 pm, 37.5 hours per week. Occasional weekend site work may be classed as overtime.

Start date: July 2027

As part of our Structures Assessment Team based in Crawley, York, Liverpool orCardiff, you’ll have the opportunity to be part of a national team that undertakes the structural assessment and inspections of a wide variety of railway structures, from bridgescarrying trains over roads and waterways, to highway and footbridges crossing the railway, as well as station canopies and train sheds. These structures are part of the heritage of our country, and we need to ensure that they are safe to meet today’s needs as well as tomorrow’s.
