Job summary

Amey Ltd. in Cardiff invites applications for a Civil Engineering Summer Placement with our CAFA team in Transport Infrastructure. You will work on structural assessment and inspections of railway structures, gaining practical experience and a potential route to our Graduate Pathway after your studies.

You'll contribute to analyses, inspections planning, and reporting while developing professional skills in a supportive, inclusive environment across the UK.

Qualifications

  • Currently studying for a degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • Full UK driving licence or working towards obtaining one.
  • Personal Track Safety (PTS) requirement.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake numerical analysis and assessment calculations to determine the structural load carrying capacity of a variety of structures.
  • Proposing strengthening and maintenance options.
  • Planning and undertaking bridge inspections to confirm structural details and condition.
  • Developing innovative solutions to enhance inspection and technical capabilities.
  • Prepare technical drawings and reports.

Job description

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Civil Engineering Summer Placement to join our CAFA team within Amey's Transport Infrastructure Business Unit, based in Cardiff.

Salary:

12.71 per hour (Subject to review)

Location

6th Floor, 5 Callaghan Square, Cardiff, CF10 5BT

Working hours per week:

Monday to Friday, 9.00 am to 5.00 pm, 37.5 hours per week. Occasional weekend site work may be classed as overtime.

Start date

July 2027

As part of our Structures Assessment Team based in Crawley, York, Liverpool or Cardiff, you'll have the opportunity to be part of a national team that undertakes the structural assessment and inspections of a wide variety of railway structures, from bridges carrying trains over roads and waterways, to highway and footbridges crossing the railway, as well as station canopies and train sheds. These structures are part of the heritage of our country, and we need to ensure that they are safe to meet today's needs as well as tomorrow's.

What you will do:
