Job summary

Balfour Beatty plc is seeking a Civil Engineer for the @one Alliance in Peterborough. You will deliver civil designs, calculations and specifications for water-sector assets, working within multi‑discipline teams to meet budget and schedule while upholding safety and quality standards.

The role offers hybrid working, with opportunities to progress toward Chartered status and to contribute to innovative, sustainable water infrastructure projects across the region.

Qualifications

• BEng or MSc/MEng in Civil or Structural Engineering, ideally working towards Chartered Engineer status
• Experience with structural calculations for concrete structures and design of civil engineering structures
• Experience with relevant engineering design software packages
• Knowledge of British Standards and Eurocodes; able to interpret ground investigation reports for design solutions
• Strong teamwork and collaboration skills
• Strong reporting and data analysis skills
• Ability to challenge current ways of working and propose new approaches

Responsibilities

• Produce civil designs, calculations and specifications for water-sector assets and specify pipes (ductile iron, steel, plastic)
• Work within multi‑discipline design teams to deliver on time and within budget
• Drive health and safety in design per Alliance CDM procedures
• Progress projects from feasibility to detailed design to construction
• Undertake site visits to assess asset condition and gather survey data
• Support updating Standard Products in repeatable designs
• Identify opportunities to meet project digital, sustainability, innovation and people objectives
