Job description

Arup’s purpose, shared values and collaborative approach have set us apart for 80 years, guiding how we shape a better world.

The UK is undergoing a once-in-a-generation transformation of its energy, water and infrastructure systems. At Arup, we're helping clients deliver the projects and programmes that will support a more sustainable, resilient and prosperous future. The challenges facing infrastructure today require bold thinking, collaborative leadership and a commitment to positive change.

The Opportunity

Climate change • Climate change refers to long-term shifts in temperatures and weather patterns. Human activities have been the main driver of climate change, primarily due to the burning of fossil fuels like coal, oil and gas.

Arup’s Civil Engineering team is looking to recruit a Civil Engineer to join our growing Infrastructure team in the Liverpool office, supporting a diverse portfolio of projects across the UK. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to nationally significant infrastructure across the energy and water sectors, alongside regional and local projects that enhance connectivity, resilience and quality of life for communities.

You will support the planning, design and delivery of civil engineering solutions across a range of infrastructure projects, including energy, water, transportation, data centres and urban development. Working across the project lifecycle, from feasibility studies and concept design through to detailed design and construction support, you will help develop sustainable, practical and innovative solutions to meet our clients’ needs.

Working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, you will develop site layouts, drainage strategies, earthworks designs, access arrangements and utility coordination solutions. You will also prepare technical designs, drawings, calculations and reports, ensuring high-quality outputs and taking ownership of defined project tasks.

Our clients include major data centre developers and operators, utility providers, transmission network operators, contractors and public sector organisations. As part of Arup’s wider UK and global network, you will collaborate with specialists across civil engineering, energy, digital, environmental and planning disciplines, contributing to integrated design solutions and supporting the continued development of BIM-led delivery and data-driven engineering approaches

Is this role right for you?

  • Utilities coordination and diversion planning
  • Highways and access design
  • Energy, utilities or electricity transmission projects
  • Design management and multidisciplinary coordination

We welcome candidates from consultancy, contractor, utility, public sector and other relevant backgrounds. If you’re enthusiastic about the role but don’t meet every requirement, we still encourage you to apply.

At Arup, you’ll benefit from mentoring, professional development and opportunities to work on major infrastructure projects, with support to develop your technical skills, progress towards chartership and grow your career.

  • A degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline
  • Experience using design software such as Civil 3D, MicroDrainage, InfoDrainage, AutoCAD or similar packages
