Job summary

SCINERGY Recruitment are seeking CHP Shift Operators for a biomass power facility near Lincoln, Lincolnshire. You will operate and monitor the boiler plant from the control room, ensure safe and efficient operation and support the Senior Authorised Person with safety duties.

The role requires a 24/7 shift rota, with a salary of £42,000–£45,000 plus benefits, and opportunities for ongoing training and a long-term career in renewable energy.

Qualifications

• Operations experience in power generation, biomass or similar steam-raising environments.
• Control-room systems experience using a desktop control system to monitor and operate plant.
• Engineering or operational qualification (NVQ Level 4 / ONC / HNC or equivalent).
• BOAS training and accreditation would be advantageous.
• Sound understanding of permit-to-work, isolation procedures and health, safety and environmental requirements.
• Good communication and teamwork skills; able to work independently.
• Willingness to work a 24/7 shift rota including weekends.

Responsibilities

• Carry out routine plant inspections, respond to alarms and adjust operations.
• Support start-ups, shutdowns and isolation works per site procedures.
• Monitor pumps, conveyors and treatment systems; maintain logs and handovers.
• Act as Authorised Person and support permit-to-work processes.
• Carry out water-quality tests and basic plant chemistry checks.
• Perform basic first-line maintenance and report defects.
• Ensure compliance with site procedures and safety standards.

CHP Shift Operators Renewable Energy

£42,000 £45,000 + benefits

Lincoln, Lincolnshire

SCINERGY Recruitment are looking for a number of Shift Operators / CHP Operators to join a biomass power-generation facility near Lincoln, Lincolnshire. The site converts recovered wood chip into renewable energy and reusable wood products, helping to reduce landfill waste and provide an alternative to finite fossil fuels.

Working as part of the operations team, you will operate and monitor the boiler plant and associated equipment, ensuring the facility performs safely, efficiently and in line with its operational and environmental targets. You will also act as an Authorised Person and support the Senior Authorised Person with plant safety and operational duties.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and monitor the boiler, superheater and associated auxiliary equipment through the central control-room system
• Carry out routine plant inspections, respond to alarms and make operational adjustments to maintain safe and efficient performance
• Support plant start-ups, shutdowns and isolations in accordance with site procedures
• Monitor pumps, conveyors, water-treatment equipment and other balance-of-plant systems
• Act as an Authorised Person, supporting permit-to-work, lock-out/tag-out and safe systems of work
• Carry out water-quality testing, basic plant chemistry checks and chemical-dosing adjustments
• Perform basic first-line maintenance, support fault-finding and report plant defects
• Maintain accurate operational records, plant logs and shift-handover information
• Ensure all activities meet site procedures and the required health, safety, environmental, operational and contractual standards

Skills and experience

To be considered for this position, you should have:

• Operations experience gained within power generation, biomass, Energy from Waste, recycling, waste management, manufacturing or another steam-raising heavy-industrial environment
• Control-room experience using a desktop control system to monitor and maintain plant operations
• A relevant engineering or operational qualification, ideally NVQ Level 4, ONC, HNC or an equivalent apprenticeship, NVQ or City & Guilds qualification
• BOAS training and accreditation, or a BOAS certificate, would be highly advantageous
• Good mechanical awareness and practical analytical, fault-finding and problem-solving ability
• A sound understanding of permit-to-work, isolation procedures and health, safety and environmental requirements
• Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work independently when required
• A proactive, flexible and safety-focused approach to plant operations, including working a 24/7 shift rota and weekends
