Job Purpose
To carry out statutory duties and responsibilities to safeguard and achieve good outcomes for vulnerable children and young people in Liverpool.
Main Areas of Responsibility:
- Manage a complex and varied caseload with appropriate supervision, guidance, and support, in accordance with policies, procedures, statutory guidance, and legislation.
- Make complex decisions regarding cases, using professional judgment, evidence-based tools, critical reflection, and analysis to inform decisions. Assess risks and needs, prioritizing the safety and welfare of children.
- Undertake work within the Public Law Outline framework, including pre-proceedings, court statement preparation, and presenting evidence at court.
- Conduct parenting assessments using best practice tools and support others in developing these skills.
- Apply a range of social work interventions with children, young people, and families to reduce risks and promote positive outcomes.
- Deliver protective and supportive services for vulnerable children.
- Complete thorough assessments, analyzing risks and needs to inform care plans.
- Involve children, young people, and families in assessments and care planning, respecting their views, wishes, and feelings.
- Update assessments and care plans regularly to reflect current needs.
- Prepare accurate reports for various purposes, including child protection conferences, care planning, reviews, and legal proceedings, within set timescales.
- Share reports timely with parents, carers, and children, considering their understanding levels.
- Conduct statutory visits within required timescales and document them accurately and promptly.
- Maintain accurate, sensitive, and up-to-date records on all cases.
- Ensure children achieve permanence through effective care planning and timely task completion.
- Support young people's transition to adulthood through effective planning involving relevant services and agencies.
- Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, taking on the role of Chair as needed.
- Undertake Achieving Best Evidence interviews as required.
- Engage in direct work with children, young people, and their families.
- Build effective relationships with children, families, and partner agencies to elicit needs and promote participation in decision-making. Practice inclusively, respecting identity and diversity, and challenge concerns.
- Obtain regular supervision to ensure effective, reflective practice.
- Participate in annual appraisals and reviews, identifying improvement areas and engaging in learning opportunities.
- Prioritize tasks effectively through good time management.
- Communicate honestly and clearly, ensuring understanding among all involved parties, and adhere to confidentiality, data protection, and information-sharing protocols.
Person Specification:
- Social Work degree or equivalent qualification, or due to receive qualification within 5 months of application (A)
- Registered with Social Work England or due to register within 5 months of application (A)
Skills/Abilities:
- Knowledge of children’s legislation, statutory guidance, policies, and procedures (A/I)
- Knowledge of assessment frameworks and planning tools (A/I)
- Understanding of child development (A)
- Knowledge of statutory child protection and looked after children processes (A/I)
- Ability to conduct needs-led assessments with critical reflection and analysis (A/I)
- Understanding of being and acting as a corporate parent, aligned with Corporate Parenting Principles (I)
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, capable of presenting information clearly in meetings/panels (I)
